1. Executive Summary
Since the end of the last century, when Marconi and Hertz demonstrated the feasibility of radio transmissions, mankind has endeavoured to fulfil the dream of flawless wireless multimedia telecommunications, enabling people to communicate with anyone, anywhere, at any time, using a range of multimedia services.
In fact, ''virtually'' being with someone, anywhere, at any time at the push of a dialling key - provided that the wireless system, the communicator device as well as the human/communicator interface are up to the associated requirements - is a concept that ultimately leads to the impression of ''tele-presence'' while communicating.
Naturally, the provision of these ''tele-presence'' services requires a further quantum leap in a range of enabling technologies from the current state-of-the-art, which is constituted by the well-known mobile phone.
The second ACTeN Business Roundtable with the topic of mobile multimedia & mobile communications, was organizing, providing new ideas for multimedia telecommunications business:
- The Warsaw Business Roundtable was successfully organized in Warsaw on 21 January, parallel to the annual 18th Teleinformatics Exhibition COMPUTER EXPO 2003.
- During the second Business Roundtable seven presentations of research results, innovative solutions, technologies and tools in the area of mobile multimedia and mobile communications were fruitfully presented.
- The panel discussion: ''QUO VADIS MULTIMEDIA?'' involving four experts, stimulated an intense debate with people in the content industry on the their needs for new development and research in mobile multimedia & communications technologies.
Changes in the economy, the emergence of new forms of contacts with the market, have led to significant changes in the formula of communications - Business Roundtable concept is answering these growing requirements.
